Spring 2022 Emerald Innovation Program May/June (Note:  Make up sessions 7/12; 7/15; and 7/19 of 2022)

The Emerald STEM Innovator program will be held 5/3 -  6/09 (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 5 to 7 p.m. CST and it is an innovation program for 9th - 12th graders with the option to earn three transferrable college credits.  The virtual 6-week course is geared toward college-bound or highly interested college students who are interested in STEM innovation, and design thinking, and working in teams.    

Below are the attributes of the pilot program.

- What:  Complete a virtual 6-week STEM Innovation course (4 hours/week)

- When:  Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 to 7 p.m. CST via Zoom.

- Who:  High school students 9th -12th grades (includes Spring 2022 graduating seniors)

- Partner with University of Iowa's Jacobson Institute Curriculum

- Earn 3 transferrable college credits from the University of Iowa

- Aligns to National Standards

- Describe how leveraging a diverse set of skills and mindsets can influence a team's innovation process and impact sustainability efforts.

- Identify and explain individual strengths and team members' strengths needed to best innovate a solution to a problem.

- Identify the problem and its value in solving it.

- Identify elements of an effective pitch

- Edit an activity to infuse elements of STEM Innovation and entrepreneurship for your content area.

We have 10 seats that are fully sponsored (i.e.instructors, space, curriculum, final proficiency exam etc.).  We have 5 additional seats that will be subsidized.  

Seating is limited. Class will be held over Zoom.
